April 10 - Heating Up

Welcome temperatures in the 70's today, for the first time in quite awhile.

Up early this morning with Harriet, recording Op. 161 Genre Implosions No. 1 ("Mass Confusion"): V. Alleluia --

-- progressive superimpositions of two Gregorian chants, plus music of Notker Balbulus ("The Stammerer"), the School of Chartres, Hildegard von Bingen, Perotin, the ars antiqua motet tradition, and the School of Worcester.

Meanwhile Quiz 12 Voice Leading in Theory today, with excerpts drawn from The Beatles, Leonard Bernstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Pink Floyd, and Muddy Waters (above).

Then home, blogging away on Bela Bartok for markalburgermusichistory.blogspot.com, listening to the great Hungarian's Violin Concerto No. 1 and No. 2, Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, 4, and 5, plus the "Triple" Concerto, Alban Berg Piano Sonata, Osvaldo Golijov's Oceano, Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 8 ("Unfinished") and 9 ("The Great"), Igor Stravinsky's Symphonies of Wind Instruments, Toru Takemitsu's A Flock.... and film music, and Anton Webern's Piano Variations --

decamping with Harriet to local bistro for dinner near sunset, watching old movies of Doris Day and Alexander Borodin's Prince Igor (quite a combination) in evening.
